Change of Career Course marks the origin story of G.I.G. Design. Shortly after completing an industrial design degree and beginning to share a portfolio with businesses, a near-fatal car accident resulted in a full fracture of the right humeral head and eleven weeks of enforced immobility. That unplanned “medical leave” interrupted the expected path of designing for mass markets and created a rare pause to re-evaluate what work should truly serve.
During this time, the desire to integrate healthcare experience with design skills became unmistakably clear. Instead of focusing on “widgets” for generalized lifestyles, the vision shifted toward helping individuals navigate meaningful, purpose-filled habits and environments. This project anchors the belief that originality often rises from disruption: new circumstances, failure, and limitation become fertile ground for creative re-direction. G.I.G. Design’s practice now reflects that origin—treating each person’s life as the primary context for design, where form, function, and nervous system care work together to support doing, being, and becoming on purpose.
